A Look Into Live Strong House’s Transition Program

Transition students at Live Strong House participate in weekly individual, family, and group therapy services. Students also engage in three hours of young-adult-specific group therapy which centers around easing fears one may have about entering adult life and other relevant topics chosen by Live Strong House therapists. Students also have reserved time every evening where they address issues that have arisen and can provide feedback to each other.
Transition House students focus their efforts on various aspects of transitioning to adulthood such as graduating from high school and getting accepted into college or a trade school. Once graduated from high school, students have the opportunity to attend the College and Career Readiness Program (CCRP) during school hours. During this time, students volunteer one or two times per week and complete a number of requirements such as gaining certification in a relevant field, getting a driver’s license, exploring different vocations, building their resumes, working on college applications, and applying to jobs. Students in the transition house program are encouraged to get jobs while they are in the program, and many of our students have been enrolled at the nearby Weber State University to get a head start on their college degrees.
Our transition house supports six students where they will participate in activities each night, ranging from swimming at the recreation center to playing sports at the park or rock climbing. On Wednesdays, students get outside the classroom and engage in a recreation day where students have the opportunity to go skiing, mountain biking, boating, and hiking. These activities promote physical fitness and reinforce therapeutic principles taught throughout the week. At Live Strong House, we believe strongly in the power of play and getting extended time in the fresh air at least once a week. Students also have the opportunity to attend adventure trips a few times per year such as Sun Valley, ID to ski, St. George and Moab, UT for climbing, boating, and mountain biking, and Lake Powell for a week on the water.
