Ascend Healthcare Opens Trails, an Adolescent Boys Program Focused on Recreation Therapy

Santa Clarita, CA, November 15 – Ascend Healthcare is proud to announce the launch of its newest program, Trails. In keeping with the California RTC model, Ascend Healthcare is launching the latest 6-bed residential treatment program designed for adolescent boys struggling with primary mental health and/or secondary substance use issues.
Science has shown that movement, activity, and exercise can reduce poor mental health symptoms. Program Director Kyle DiFulvio, PsyD is bringing an interconnected awareness to this program and clients by incorporating a focus on the outdoors and eco-therapy; the defining elements of Trails program are an emphasis on recreation and animal-assisted therapies.
“The program offers the same full range of therapeutic modalities and evidence-based treatments as our other programs but also features batting cages, a putting green, boxing, an on-site skate park with ramps, a basketball court, and close proximity to the Angeles National Forest for adventure therapy and a whole lot of top-notch hiking. Recreationally, this program has it all,” said Dr. Kyle DiFulvio.
Both animal-assisted therapy and equine therapy will be included on the property and clients will learn to care for animals as a part of the program. The program incorporates CBT and DBT dynamic interventions, offering a mixture of residential & recreation treatment with the eco-therapeutic aspects of an adventure program.
