Last Wednesday, an email went out to colleagues in the profession that New Lifestyles (Winchester, VA), a program helping young adults for the last 30 years, is closing on December 20th, 2015. Dr. Ken Cuave, Founder, said the cause was an "unprecedented and unanticipated drop in enrollment.”
This was a sad day for All Kinds of Therapy, because this early partner with All Kinds of Therapy has been a leader in the emerging young adult, private pay treatment. New Lifestyles was the first treatment program to open a transexpansive housing option in the private pay behavioral health treatment for young adults who identify LGBTQ. Dr. Ken Cuave also recently provided an interview for this blog and his excitement and learning about transgender children, teens and young adults permeated the blog.
It always causes a wave of focused reflection when program closes their doors. The email sent out to colleagues was graceful and reflective. It is clear that the coming months are going to be dedicated to continued quality of care for the New Lifestyles clients. All Kinds of Therapy wishes to acknowledge the quality treatment programing New Lifestyles maintained over the three decades and therefore, looks forward to hearing where the dedicated staff, therapists and Dr. Ken Cuave land as they intentionally close this fine program.
Dr. Ken Cuave closed his announcement email “with gratitude” and we sign off this blog
With Gratitude to New Lifestyles.
