Cherokee Creek Celebrates 20 Years

Cherokee Creek Boys School (CCBS) celebrated its 20th anniversary with over 45 alumni families, 25 current families, and 52 staff who traveled from 14 states and 3 countries to join a weekend full of activities. The reunion began on the CCBS campus, in Westminster, SC, where current students and families joined alumni for a session with special guest speaker Michael Gurian. Gurian, a New York Times best-selling author, shared his expertise on brain science and the different ways that boys and girls learn and process information. After lunch, cake, and a school band performance, the group gathered around the graduation circle for Honorable Closure. This is a time to say goodbye to upcoming graduates and families and gives them a chance to say farewell to staff and fellow students. CCBS alumni joined in and shared wisdom and advice, giving soon-to-be graduates both a realistic view and a sense of hope for life post-CCBS. The CCBS team received gifts of appreciation and love as parents and students thanked them for their care, guidance, and commitment throughout their journey. Families shared how their time at Cherokee Creek helped them rebuild their families, made a difference in their lives, and acknowledged how they continue to use their CCBS tools along the way. The next day, students were excited to make their way back to campus for a brunch event featuring Mrs. P’s famous pancakes. The weather was perfect for a group golf outing with Co-Founder Ron Black. Others revisited favorite waterfalls and hikes while some stayed on campus and gathered around the fireplace as executive director David LePere and co-founder Beth Black shared memories and stories as part of a nostalgic walk down memory lane. Perhaps the highlight of the weekend was a party at the Lakeside Lodge in Seneca, where over 165 members of the CCBS family came together to celebrate. The evening was filled with games, testimonials, gift-giving, great food, and music. Operations director Phil Fairbrother and Nick Linscott, CCBS math teacher, were presented with 19-year service pins. Founders Beth and Ron Black were showered with love and appreciation, and surprised with the proclamation that was submitted by the Mayor of Westminster, SC. Due to the contributions to the local community, and the impact of serving more than 500 students, May 6th is now officially Beth & Ron Black Day. Beth & Ron shared, “It was an evening we will not soon forget. Here’s to the next 20 years!” About Cherokee Creek Boys School Cherokee Creek, founded in 2003, is licensed by the State of South Carolina, and accredited by The Joint Commission and Cognia.
