CooperRiis Launches Partial Hospitalization Program

CooperRiis Healing Community, a non-profit mental health treatment program in western North Carolina, introduces its new Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). This year marks the 20th anniversary since the opening of the Farm in Mill Spring, a therapeutic working farm. Since that launch, CooperRiis now boasts five levels of care in an integrated system; four of those levels are offered in the Asheville area. The PHP program will be an insurance driven model.
The program is set to launch September 5th, 2023 at its new location 53 S. French Broad Street in downtown Asheville. The PHP is highly structured and offers short-term day treatment for five hours a day, five days a week (Mon-Fri) and runs approximately 4-6 weeks. The program will reflect CooperRiis’ approach to treatment; a holistic and person-centered model, with the “PHP member” living at home or at temporary housing.
The program will offer stabilization for someone who might be stepping down from a recent hospitalization, or for someone who might be experiencing mental health symptoms that could be keeping them from living their lives as they normally would. The PHP will address the member’s psychosocial needs and offer skill building through individual psychiatry and psychotherapy, case management and evidenced-based group interventions such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Expressive Arts Therapy, among others. Additionally, the PHP members will be offered community integration opportunities within CooperRiis’ other levels of care. The PHP program also offers a strong wellness component through an organic diet and fitness opportunities such as trauma-informed yoga.
The CooperRiis’ PHP treats adults 18 and over who experience mental health diagnoses such as anxiety, major depression, PTSD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, personality disorders, and any co-occurring condition related to addiction (dual diagnosis).
The introduction of this new program is especially relevant today as fallout from the pandemic, social injustice, and a highly charged political climate continue to profoundly impact mental health. The CooperRiis commitment to the principles of recovery provides an essential service for people whose emotional well-being has been further compromised by these challenges.
“CooperRiis believes that, with this new level of care offered through our unique approach to recovery,” says Eric A. Levine, Ed.D, President & CEO, “We will be able to reach new people and a more diverse group of people who have been struggling.”
This program is in network with AETNA, CIGNA. and United Healthcare. Other insurance will be considered on an out-of-network basis.
