This September, Equinox’s Recreation Director Natalie Stark, LRT, CTRS, proudly collaborated with Breakwater Expeditions to deliver a life-changing 6-day sea kayaking adventure in the scenic San Juan Islands, situated off the picturesque coast of Washington State. Participants embarked on a journey that began with a ferry ride from Anacortes to the enchanting Orcas Island, followed by a mesmerizing sea kayaking expedition to the breathtaking Sucia Island, where they camped under the stars for three unforgettable nights. To cap off this remarkable adventure, participants had the opportunity to explore the vibrant cityscape of downtown Seattle. One participating parent was rendered speechless by the experience and stated, “It was so incredible that I have no words to describe it to my husband.” Another participant shared, “It was undeniably challenging, but I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything. It illuminated our progress as a family and highlighted the areas where we still have room to grow.” The primary objective of this extraordinary expedition was to foster deep connections among students and their families by offering a challenging and stimulating experience that mirrors the obstacles they often face in their daily lives post-Equinox. Through heart-led leadership and facing immediate challenges head-on, participants embarked on a powerful journey of personal growth and discovery. The journey encompassed everything from navigating the ocean in sea kayaks to uncovering hidden treasures within tide pools, including the elusive Purple Sea Stars. Participants learned to lead with their hearts, demonstrating their ability to tackle adversity and embrace growth opportunities as they emerged. The transformative experience left a lasting impact on all those involved. This partnership with Breakwater Expeditions brought about an extraordinary opportunity for families to bond, overcome obstacles, and emerge stronger together.
