Evoke Therapy Programs Welcomes Cori Wright as its Newest Wilderness Therapist

Evoke Therapy Programs is delighted to announce that Cori Wright, MS, ACMHC, SEP has joined the team as a primary therapist in its Southern Utah-based wilderness program.
“Cori comes to us with an extensive background in outdoor behavioral health, with 14 years of experience in wilderness and clinical settings, working as a field guide at multiple programs and as a family services guide/therapist as well,” says Dr. Matt Hoag. “I thought her history and experience made her a perfect fit for the sophisticated clinical approach at Evoke.”
Wright got a BA in Biological Anthropology and Mexican-American History at the University of New Mexico where she also conducted research in forensic anthropology. She then received her MS in Clinical Mental Health from Prescott College, with an emphasis in Somatic Psychotherapy. While she pursued degrees, Wright worked in adventure therapy and wilderness settings. Wright has also completed the three-year training in Somatic Experiencing and is an SE Practitioner. Most recently, Wright served as an Adjunct Faculty member at Western New Mexico University in the MSW program, and taught Outdoor Behavioral Health and Adventure Therapy. She has, over the course of her studies and career, worked with populations in jails, shelters, and refugee camps doing crisis work.
For her part, Wright is excited to be back in the field. “I have worked in almost every environment possible; jails, shelters, wilderness, offices, etc. And while those other methods are needed for some populations, I would often sit staring out the window wishing I was back in the wilderness. It is where I feel at home,” she says. “What drew me to Evoke was the nomadic model and the core belief that the wilderness does a lot of the work. Of course Evoke would not be what it is without its team, however, the foundation is built upon is the premise that given the space, time, hard skills, and soft skills, wilderness works.”
