Foundations Asheville Expands Student Support with Additional Transition House

Foundations Asheville, a transitional living program for young adults, just added a new house for students in their program. The Dayton House is for students that are ready for phase two of the program, preparing them for more independent living.
In order to be eligible to move into this new transition house, students must exhibit high functioning in the program’s six pillars: academics/vocational, financial management, social integration, personal health, functional living skills, and hobbies and interests. When students feel they have successfully met the six pillars, they are encouraged to advocate for transition into the Dayton House.
Mike Groves, Director of Operations states, “this house will be a crucial element in our programming for students to practice the skills that they have been working on but in an environment where there is more freedom and agency with a safety net to fall back on.”
In this new house, Foundations Life Skills Instructors are still present every day. They help students set goals, organize activities, and keep students accountable. Students in the new house have more independence while still having support each step of the way. This home is the intermediate step between residential and independent living in the program.
Students who progress through the program will ultimately advance to independent living.
