Foundations Asheville Students Reintegrating Back Into School and Community

Students at Foundations Asheville, a transitional living program designed to help struggling young adults, are transitioning back into the classroom setting this upcoming fall semester.
Foundations provides a supportive environment for students to transition back into real life following wilderness therapy. Students are encouraged to identify their goals and have support while working toward them. Foundations is an optimal launching point for students who need help transitioning back into their lives after treatment, with opportunities to begin taking college courses, work toward a career, and take actionable steps toward their interests.
Students at Foundations have the option to take classes at local colleges including UNC Asheville and AB Tech. Students will work with the Academic Director to determine what courses they are interested in and can get assistance signing up for them. Classes at AB Tech and UNC Asheville are offered both in person and remotely. Many classes are changing to a hybrid model to give students classroom time as well as online learning.
For students who would prefer to work toward a career instead of college, Foundations can help them identify local businesses and community partners to connect with for internships or apprenticeship opportunities. Community involvement is an important element in Foundations’ programming. Students are involved in the community whether it is through work, school, or volunteering.
“Community involvement is an integral part of campus life at Foundations Asheville, as it is a step in the right direction to realize their goals,” said Lindsay Furst, Academic Director at Foundations Asheville.
Through community involvement and ongoing one-on-one support, students at Foundations successfully transition into young adulthood.
