Free Event for Families — Alternative to College Resource Fair – Sep. 23, 2023 Registration Open

The ALT Fair is back on the East Coast and scheduled for Saturday, September 23, 2023. The event is free and will take place from 12:00-3:00 pm EST at the Riverside Church in New York City. The target audience for the ALT Fair is high school seniors or young adults who are interested in exploring alternative paths to higher education or toward young adult independence. Resources may include vocational programs, certification programs, gap year programs, adventure therapy programs, and young adult transitional programs. Families, young adults, and even high school counselors and independent college consultants are encouraged to attend this free event.
The ALT Fair started in 2014 in Walnut Creek, California. After resounding feedback for the event location and need, Shayna Abraham (Prepare to Bloom), Joanna Lilley (Lilley Consulting), and Adrienne Frumberg (Lighthouse Guidance) unanimously agreed to host it in New York City again this year for the second year in a row.
When asked what will look differently this year, Joanna shared: “Last year we had a lot of parents coming up and asking which programs they needed to speak to. In an effort to better help direct families this year, programs will be grouped together in categories for easier navigation for families in attendance. We certainly want families to walk through and speak with each resource in attendance, and we also understand that someone in a family might be on a mission in who or what they’re looking for. We hope this year’s intentional layout will support that need.”
More details about the event can be found on the CollegeAlternative.org website. Registration for attendees is encouraged, but not required. There will not be a check-in at the fair, and anyone is welcome. Families, young adults, and counselors visit collegealternative.org to register.
