Ironwood Maine Strengthens Clinical Program with Dr. Valerie A. Clemons MD, ABPN

Ironwood Maine is excited to announce that its current psychiatrist and medical director, Dr. Valerie A. Clemons MD, ABPN, will be joining the Ironwood team full-time, effective immediately.
The Ironwood campus is thrilled to have Dr. Clemons full-time, as she brings a breadth and diversity of experience that is only matched by her strong passion for teaching.
“At heart, I am a teacher,” says Clemons. My work is to engage, teach, encourage, and sometimes temporarily ‘hold the hope’ for the individuals and families I am privileged to work with. My favorite saying is ‘One brain a piece.’”
Demonstrating her dedication to children and their well-being, Dr. Clemons frequently travels to Kenya to engage with children and families affected by poverty and the AIDS epidemic.
“Dr. Clemons provides outstanding treatment because she takes the time she needs to understand her clients by building rapport and she works with their families and caretakers to look at the whole picture,” says Executive Director, Megan Ryan. “I feel very fortunate to call her a team member at Ironwood.”
Intensive therapy is a pillar of the Ironwood program, with all students receiving comprehensive, individualized treatment plans. Students are supported as they gather and practice the tools and skills needed for a more healthy and fulfilling life.
