Jason Seavey, LCSW joins outBACK Therapeutic Expeditions as Primary Therapist

outBACK Therapeutic Expeditions, a purpose-driven wilderness therapy program focused on bringing families BACK together, is excited to announce that Jason Seavey, LCSW, joined the clinical team on Monday, August 1, 2022. Jason will assume the role of Primary Therapist and will be working with students assigned male at birth at outBACK.
Jason holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Utah. Prior to joining the team at outBACK Therapeutic Expeditions, Jason worked within a residential treatment center for 22 years. Throughout his career as a clinician, Jason’s approach to working with his students and their families is deeply rooted in authenticity and honesty. He offers a steady presence that allows room for students to uncover who they are, understand and accept the challenges they face, as well as have fun. Jason incorporates therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), relationship-focused approaches, family therapy and learning how to be solution focused
As Jason reflected on his transition from 22 years within a residential treatment center to a wilderness therapy program at outBACK, this is what he expressed, “I’m excited to be able to work with students who are earlier in their journey than I’m used to. I have reaped the benefits for years from the hard work wilderness programs have placed into clients and their families. I look forward to being able to share my love for the outdoors with the students and am thankful for the amazing people I have met at outBACK so far! I’m also excited to learn some of the indigenous/primitive skills the students learn in the program for my own enrichment.”
The students Jason will be working with at outBACK will have a history of:
- Mood Regulation Struggles
- Substance Use
- Attachment Disruptions
- Toxic Relationships
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Parent-Child Relationship Challenges
- Oppositional Defiance
- Risk Taking Behaviors
- Family Stressors
- Low Sense of Self | Low Self Esteem
Greg Burnham, Clinical Director, had this to share about Jason coming on board, “I am beyond excited to welcome Jason to our clinical team. Jason has a depth of wisdom, passion, and skill for working with the amazing humans that come into our lives as therapists. Jason is a very thoughtful and intelligent human being whose love and passion for working with young people is evident and contagious.” Greg went on to state that “Jason knows how to navigate that beautifully challenging space of validating and understanding someone’s pain and be able to guide them to examine diverse ways of thinking, viewing, and experiencing the world. Jason both brings a unique perspective that adds such value into our organizational culture while seamlessly adds to the richness of what others have to offer. I am so glad to have him join our outBACK family!”
