Live Strong House Partners with Coral Sands Academy to Offer Individualized Support
Live Strong House (LSH) has partnered with Coral Sands Academy to provide the scaffolding to support its students’ learning needs. The academic department at LSH is driven to evaluate and integrate the specialized learning needs and styles of each student. Individualized academic plans and course planning help students with recovery credit, maintain graduation pace, and provide advanced courses when appropriate. Coral Sands Academy, accredited through Cognia, follows nationally accepted graduation requirements and bestows high school diplomas for graduating seniors. LSH can meet state-specific graduation requirements as needed and also match individual college entrance requirements as part of our students’ post-secondary planning.
Courses at LSH are offered in both an online and offline format, as well as selected courses in direct instruction as a whole or small group, dependent on the needs of the student body. These courses are supported daily by individual and group tutoring, both one-on-one and web-based. Progress reports are evaluated regularly to determine student engagement and create accommodations and modifications as necessary. Participation in the Live Strong House programs also earns course credit in Personal Development and Leadership, Physical Education, and Psychology.
Students coming to Live Strong House will also be able to participate in ACT and SAT prep courses in preparation for college admittance. LSH has both in-house and third-party partners to provide test prep for our students with eyes toward post-secondary education.
The academic component at Live Strong House caters to students who get lost in traditional school settings. Some students struggle with learning differences, others with emotional challenges that impede progress. Many of them lack confidence and may have self-limiting behaviors. At Live Strong House, they provide a personalized education plan. This personalized approach manages the students with learning exceptionalities to gain that confidence and push progress. It also supports accelerated learners to continue with advanced classes to prepare them for their post-secondary plans as they apply to colleges all over the country.
Common methods used to help students develop their classroom skills are small class load (no more than 3 courses at a time), student-directed planning for classwork to determine how much time and/or class periods are dedicated each day toward their different subjects, chunking of assignments to assist with attention span and engagement, graphic organizers, a pacing guide to monitor course progress and deadlines (includes daily to-do lists), task analysis cards (breakdown of steps to help a student initiate an assignment and follow until completion), and working with students with lists, notes, and summaries to facilitate recall and initiate problem-solving.
Live Strong House uses assessment and planning to create an individualized plan for each student. Its teams consult with past schools, educational counselors, and parents to understand needs, abilities, learning styles, and achievements. LSH recognizes that a student’s academic and therapeutic needs are always connected. By supporting this integration, LSH can help students overcome false beliefs, develop new habits, and learn positive self-perception.
The teachers at Live Strong House come from a variety of backgrounds with experience in both therapeutic and traditional school settings, including general and special education, and have expertise in math and science. They regularly participate in treatment team meetings and ongoing professional training. The 8:1 student-teacher ratio allows for the learning environment and instruction to be tailored to the individual student, which allows the teachers to reach both advanced and struggling students and create relationships needed to support and inspire progress. LSH also has academic tutors who work with students who need more intensive one-on-one help for advanced classes, as well as those who need additional scaffolding and direct instruction.
