Looking Forward to Elective Week at Boulder Creek Academy

Boulder Creek Academy, a fully-accredited academic therapeutic boarding school serving coeducational ages 13 through 18, weaves a relationship-based therapy approach for struggling students. Academic Director Kenton Clairmont is excited to share what students are getting to experience during the upcoming mid-term elective week. “This is such a fun opportunity getting to interact with kids outside of the regular classroom setting. Our teachers to get to share subjects and hobbies that they are really passionate about.”
Mid-term week has turned into a week where teachers and students get a break from the regularly scheduled classes, and in turn get to select top choices from a list of options being offered for the week. “It is a much needed break from the everyday routine of daily academics. Everyone, teachers and students alike look forward to Elective Week. This week provides the opportunity to build relationships with students from a different perspective and setting.”
This term’s elective class offerings have students choosing from Community Baskets which are“Thank you for all you do” baskets for first responders in the county. A theme which has been continued from last term when thank you bags were completed for all of the teachers within the local school district.
Additional class choices include a music class for those who are not currently enrolled in the daily music classes offered. This gives those that are thinking about joining music the opportunity to experience what the class is like, and to try out something new. A new band is forming and the students are excited about this.
Next on the list is a Cooking class taught by our PE teacher and our English teacher. Both love to cook, and the students look forward to learning everything from main dishes to desserts.
Finally, a Wilderness Survival Skills class offering skills from water filtration to fire building. Many students having been to a wilderness program, found a passion for this and want to build on those skills. Others, who have not had this experience, love the opportunity to get to learn how to live off the land!
As Boulder Creek Academy heads into such a beautiful season of the year, this fall’s Elective Week looks to be a campus favorite!
