At Wisom Ranch, the mentors foster and guide the development of healthy relationships, provide a positive role model, and are integral to students’ support system, helping to facilitate personal and academic growth. A student mentor’s most important responsibility is to build rapport and beneficial relationships with our students. Mentors serve as guides and role models. Key characteristics of successful mentors include flexibility, curiosity, openness to self-improvement, and a genuine desire to work with our young people as they embrace adulthood. A typical day may include supporting a student welding, auto repair or carpentry project, feeding cattle, assisting a student with a grocery budget and meal preparation, coordinating a volunteer project, soaking in a local hot spring, organizing a multi-day hike and camp trip, exploring near-by Idaho history sites, and any number of other possibilities. Your experience with the vocational skills we teach is less important than your ability and desire to work with and mentor our students. Mentors live and work alongside students on a 4,000-acre cattle ranch. Mentors reside with students in our lodge, and they work rotating schedules that allow for a degree of schedule flexibility. Salary is negotiable and depends on experience, training, and education. Candidates must have current CPR training or be willing to obtain CPR certification within 3 months of hire, paid for by Wisdom Ranch

About Wisdom Ranch

Our Vocational Gap Year provides young adult men intensive instruction, training, and real-world experience in skilled trades (ages 18 -25).

As students master carpentry, welding, or auto mechanics, they also experience what it means to put in a full day’s work and experience the satisfaction that comes with it. They learn how to work effectively for and with people. They learn what happens when corners are cut, when quality is sacrificed, when mistakes are covered up. In short, our students learn what it takes to have pride in their work.

Our Vocational Gap Year program is dynamic and immersive. A student’s course of study is individually tailored to their interests and can shift as those interests shift. Enrollment is limited, to ensure our instructors are able to give each student the time and attention they need and want.

The Wisdom Ranch campus rests on a 4000-acre ranch in the mountains of Idaho. Here students not only receive formal instruction in trades such as carpentry, welding, and auto mechanics, they also have the opportunity to apply those skills on the ranch. There is no better “on-the-job-training” than this.

It is this independent, real-world experience that ensures our students are in demand in today’s world. See the facts about Wisdom Ranch listed below and to the right, click on the URL to our website for more information. Wisdom Ranch is a unique vacational gap year opportunity.
