As a vocational gap year program for those 18-25, our students seek to find their calling through a hand on, experiential exploration and education of welding, auto mechanics, carpentry and more. Our Mentors are integral to this overall experience, through the development of positive relationships that facilitate growth and success in personal and academic areas.

Mentors live and work alongside students on a 4,000 acre ranch and a 10,000 square foot log built home that is the community center, at the foothills of the Pioneer Mountains. Mentors work two week on/two week off rotating schedules that allow for a degree of flexibility within those shifts and have their own rooms, just as students do.

Responsibilities

At Wisdom Ranch, a vocational Gap Year program, Mentor responsibilities are multifaceted, ranging from the mundane to the extraordinary, and very likely, life-changing. A typical day may include participating in welding class, feeding cattle, assisting a student with a shopping budget and meal preparation, coordinating a volunteer project, soaking in a local hotspring, organizing a multi day hike and camp trip, exploring near-by Idaho history sites, and any number of other possibilities, as each mentor brings with them their own personality and interests–and is encouraged to do so!
