Michael Sanders Joins Solstice West as Director of Adventure Programming

Solstice West is thrilled to welcome Michael Sanders, a passionate advocate for the healing power of nature and outdoor behavioral health, as the Director of Adventure Programming.
Michael’s journey into outdoor integrative healthcare and natural medicine began in 1996 when his sister became a student at a wilderness therapy program. This experience profoundly impacted his family and ignited his commitment to this transformative field. He started his career as a wilderness therapy field guide in Arizona from 1997 to 1999, teaching in and learning from the natural environment.
“Michael Sanders’ deep commitment to the healing potential of nature, combined with his extensive experience and leadership in the field of outdoor behavioral health, makes him an invaluable addition to our team at Solstice West,” says Executive Director Jane Peterson. “His passion for helping young individuals find their path to healing aligns perfectly with our mission, and we are excited to see the positive impact he will have on our students and their families. I’m so pleased to have him leading our recent addition of Adventure Programming.”
His commitment to personal growth and wellness shines through his professional background. Before joining Solstice West, Michael served as a somatic therapist and personal life and wellness coach at Brimhall Wellness Center in Gilbert, Arizona, for nearly a decade.
In 2014, Michael became the field director at the Anasazi Foundation, furthering his dedication to outdoor behavioral health. He also became an Arbinger seminar facilitator and a member of the Arbinger Coaching Network, enhancing his leadership skills and knowledge. In 2019, Michael joined the team at WinGate Wilderness, serving as Field Director.
Michael’s adventure continues with his appointment as the Director of Adventure Programming at Solstice West in 2023. His profound passion for healing through spending time in nature and participating in adventure therapy aligns perfectly with the values and mission of Solstice West, making him a valuable addition to the team and a huge asset to the expansion of the program’s offerings to students and families.
