Q&A Associates' family of programs is based on a life skills model. It teaches clients how to become independent through real-life experiences guided by mentors and life coaches. An important part of this process is learning how to interview and obtain a job.
Currently, over half of the clients at Cabin Mountain Living Center, Applewood Transitions for Young Women, and The Journey for Young Men are employed—whether working in the community or at the farm, Scarlet Gray gift shop, or The Breakfast Nook operated by Q&A Associates.
"It's a very important part of our process to get our clients working and understanding the importance of what having a job really means," Marci Jones, Director of Student Services and Lead Life Coach explained. "It gives our clients a sense of purpose and personal growth and allows them to contribute to society in a meaningful way."
All of the clients at Q&A Associates are working at The Breakfast Nook as their first job. The Breakfast Nook is a farm-to-table breakfast restaurant owned by Q&A Associates, which cultivates a safe space for clients to learn and grow before getting a job in the community. Q&A Associates is fortunate to have some wonderful businesses in the community that enjoy working and teaching clients.
"Canaan Valley Resort is proud to employ clients from the Q&A program. It's challenging sometimes, but I'm grateful I can play a small part in helping develop and mentor the Q&A clients who are my staff members. It's rewarding to hire someone at an entry-level job and teach them new skills in the kitchen," explained Jonathan, Executive Chef at Canaan Valley Resort.
"Cortland Acres appreciates having clients from Q&A Associates," says Lois Nelson, Human Resources Director. Having clients from Q&A is a great opportunity for both organizations to collaborate and meet employment needs. We find great value in the support we get with this relationship. The relationships cultivated with the businesses in the small town of Davis, WV, are truly one of a kind.
Overall, Q&A Associates is delighted with the number of clients currently working and maintaining employment and the wonderful connections established throughout the community. Its clients' growth through the fulfillment and responsibility of having a job is seen firsthand.
