Cornerstones of Maine, a transitional living program for young adults, made a bittersweet announcement earlier this month. After six amazing years, the program’s clinical director, Gwen Tuttle, MSW, LCSW, will be leaving the program. The founders reported that this was a planned and amicable departure intended to support Gwen and her professional growth as she transitions to open a mental health program in Southern Maine. Gwen’s program, The Coastal Institute for Psychodynamic Training & Treatment, LLC, will offer a suite of services, including psychotherapy, parent coaching, clinical training, and clinical consultation.
The Institute will eventually serve as a resource to the New England community, providing mental health services & training. The program opens in April 2024 over telehealth. Gwen will continue to collaborate with Cornerstones of Maine and will remain a strong partner of the NATSAP community. Dr. Jacob Gelles, Co-founder of Cornerstones, shares, “We are sad to lose Gwen. Gwen helped guide our program through its early years and has been an incredible leader to our team, serving as a model for other staff. We are happy that she has chosen to stay local, and we look forward to collaborating with her for years to come”. This shift in leadership at Cornerstones has created opportunities to make strategic staffing changes that will provide opportunities for growth. One of these changes was the exciting promotion of Admissions Director Aaron Rumsey, LCPC, to the position of Associate Executive Director at Cornerstones of Maine. Aaron has served as the program’s Admissions Director since March 2020, and before that, he served as Clinical Director for the Oliverian School and Hope House. In his new role, Aaron will be working side by side with Cornerstones Executive Director Dr. Eric Beaudoin to oversee its programming. Aaron will provide supervision to our Life Skills department, while Eric will return to his roots and provide direct oversight and supervision to the clinical department. Aaron’s new role will enable him to have a more hands-on role with programming while continuing to lead admissions and referral relations at Cornerstones. Their program assists 18 to 28-year-old creative & bright determined emerging young adults who are struggling to live and function independently. Clients have a history of mood or anxiety disorders, executive functioning issues, social skill deficits, and academic challenges.
