At Red Mountain Sedona, staff often talk about helping young adults build lives that are sustainable, meaningful, and aligned with their values. While that work frequently centers around emotional health, relationships, executive functioning, and identity development, one foundational area is often overlooked: an individual's relationship with food.
To further support clients in this aspect of growth, Red Mountain Sedona is excited to welcome Malia Martin, MS, RD, a master's-level Registered Dietitian with specialized experience in eating disorders, diabetes care, and individualized nutrition counseling.
Every client entering Red Mountain receives an initial nutrition assessment as part of their treatment plan. Following that assessment, clients and their team can determine whether ongoing nutrition support would be beneficial. Students may choose to continue meeting with Malia throughout their stay, or opt out of additional services based on their needs and goals. This approach reflects a core belief at Red Mountain Sedona: treatment should be individualized, collaborative, and driven by the client—not prescribed for them.
"My role is to act as a coach and guide," Malia explains. "Just as a coach helps an athlete become the best version of themselves, I help clients build confidence, navigate challenges, and move toward their goals at a pace that feels right for them."
While Malia's professional background includes extensive work with eating disorders, she is particularly excited to apply her expertise within a transitional living setting serving a broader population of young adults. Many clients may not meet the criteria for an eating disorder, yet still struggle with establishing routines, managing stress, caring for their physical health, navigating body image concerns, or developing sustainable habits that support independence. Red Mountain Sedona is excited for this additional layer of support designed to meet clients where they are.
