Former Troubled Teens Draw High Attendance From Parents With First Online Workshop

Last month, Hayley and Colin, the co-founders of Not Therapy Coaching, hosted one of the most highly attended online workshops ever for the Other Parents Like Me peer support community. The workshop title— "What Two Former Troubled Teens Wish Their Parents Knew" —says it all.

Having spent their last two years of high school in wilderness and residential treatment centers, they spoke about how the challenge of transitioning out of therapeutic programs led them to identify specific pillars upon which a successful transition into young adulthood is built. They hit on the importance of relatable mentorship and accountability, a community of supportive peers, personal agency, and parent support with a baseline of trust.

A highlight was the participation of Hayley and Colin's parents, who added their personal insight to the discussion. They shared how they wished Not Therapy existed to support Colin and Hayley when they were leaving treatment 10 years ago.

The workshop drew high praise from attendees, with many expressing gratitude for Hayley and Colin's insightful perspectives.

One parent remarked, “Thank you both so much for your hard-earned wisdom, your compassion, and your humor. Big shout out to both of you for what you’ve accomplished, and an equally big shout out to your awesome parents.”

Many participants shared this parent’s sentiment: “This is super helpful and so needed. Peer mentorship. I will be reaching out to get more information.”

Haley and Colin founded Not Therapy to provide peer-to-peer coaching for teens and young adults who feel like therapy hasn’t been the right fit or who are transitioning out of therapeutic programs back into the real world. As young people who have been in their clients’ shoes, their approach is rooted in personal expertise.

In the two weeks following the workshop, Not Therapy has seen a massive increase in its inbound inquiries coming directly from parents who are interested in Not Therapy’s coaching services for their own children. Through parents, Not Therapy is now being introduced to more educational consultants and therapeutic programs than ever.

Colin and Hayley are excited to report that April 2024 was their biggest month for business in only six months of operation—just four months after launching their website and engaging with therapeutic programs and educational consultants. They expect to have a waitlist by the end of May.

Hayley and Colin encourage parents to reach out via their website if they are looking for transitional support for their children this summer or if they’re looking to help their children reset and rebuild momentum after they’ve been out of treatment for a while.

For programs and educational consultants looking to improve their image, Hayley and Colin encourage you to contact them about customizing this workshop for parents in their program, caseload, or clientele.
