Fulshears Addition Of Parent Coaching To Family Support

Fulshear Treatment to Transition is excited to announce the addition of parent coaching to its offerings among its current and incoming families. While family work has been a constant (and crucial) experience at Fulshear, before jumping right into family therapy in week one, the Fulshear team has contracted with Beth Hillman Coaching to support clients’ parents better. With four parent coaching sessions prior to family therapy, allowing the team at Fulshear to get to know the client and parents individually, the team has seen how this can better prime the parents for family therapy and learn how to support their adult children in new and improved ways.

The support that Beth provides Fulshear’s families during their initial transition phase into the program, as well as two more sessions if/when clients move to the apartments portion of the program, can be transformational for their relationships. The parents and clients have all expressed such gratitude for this additional support provided, understanding more unique ways to build better relationships with each other and with the team. On top of the individual coaching sessions provided, a biweekly parent Zoom meeting is also offered for all parents throughout each family’s journey at Fulshear. These meetings are vital to providing extra support to parents, allowing them to connect and collaborate with each other with Beth’s guidance through tough times.

Two Fulshear parents generously reflected on this additional support at Fulshear:

One mom said, “Having a child with a mental illness can force us to parent in a way that fosters dependence. We may need help learning to parent an adult child and to break old patterns. The bi-weekly Zoom parent coaching sessions at Fulshear have been so helpful! I have learned how to parent an adult, and my relationship with my daughter is the best it has been in years. I am now confident in my ability to let her launch.”

Another parent said, “My daughter has been in a couple of treatment facilities in the last few years. In the past few months at Fulshear, they have implemented bi-weekly Zoom meetings with Beth Hillman, who is a terrific life coach for the parents of neurodiverse young adults in treatment programs. I can’t tell you how wonderful and how useful these 1-hour sessions have been for us. It has opened a whole new perspective on what we can do to better understand our roles as our daughter’s caregivers. I have learned so much and have been able to apply what I’ve learned so that my daughter and I can have a better relationship, and so that she can trust my sole intention is for her to know I will always be on her side. It has opened our communication up tremendously, and I look forward to each session. We are forever grateful for Beth!”

The Fulshear team is excited and grateful about these changes, knowing that family work is essential to helping its young adults move forward in their lives.
