Havenwood Academy has introduced two new services that highlight its commitment to trauma-informed care for teen girls. Neurofeedback therapy, a cutting-edge brain-training technique, is now available to all students to help regulate emotional and mental states disrupted by early childhood trauma. This therapy works by monitoring brainwave activity in real time and helping students develop healthier neural pathways, reducing symptoms like hyperarousal, intrusive thoughts, and emotional dysregulation.
To complement neurofeedback, Havenwood recently converted a bathroom into a mini-salon, complete with a hair-washing sink. During neurofeedback sessions, students wear a specialized cap with conductive gel to facilitate brainwave monitoring. The addition of the salon allows students to have their hair washed immediately after treatment, ensuring they return to their day feeling clean and refreshed. This seemingly small gesture serves multiple therapeutic purposes, from providing safe and appropriate physical touch to fostering a sense of trust and care. The process even activates the parasympathetic nervous system, promoting calmness and grounding.
