The Grounds Recovery continues to strengthen its commitment to helping young adults build lasting independence through its comprehensive vocational program, an integral component of our recovery model. Designed to complement clinical treatment, the program equips members with practical employment skills while fostering confidence, financial responsibility, and meaningful community engagement. From resume development and interview preparation to personalized job coaching and introductions to local employers, participants receive hands-on support as they transition back into the workforce.
Members typically work 15 to 20 hours per week, allowing them to balance employment with their individualized clinical programming. In addition to gaining valuable work experience, clients meet weekly with their case managers to review spending habits, discuss financial decisions, and establish realistic savings goals. This individualized financial coaching helps participants develop lifelong money management skills while reinforcing accountability and personal growth. Beyond financial literacy, employment provides structure, purpose, and opportunities to build healthy relationships within the greater San Diego community.
“As adults, we know the satisfaction that comes from living a full life—one built around relationships, hobbies, recreation, responsibilities, and goals. Completing these tasks builds our self-esteem and confidence over time. We also know that a consistent schedule and knowing what we're doing from day to day have been shown to reduce anxiety and depression,” says Admissions Director Scott DeLeau. He adds, “For this reason, we want our guys to have a full life with clinical work, employment, recovery meetings, recreation, and self-care going on while they're with us. Our role is to coach them through the ups and downs that come with becoming a self-sufficient adult.”
