Live Strong House Executive Functioning (EF) and College & Career Readiness Programs (CCRP)

Published: November 3, 2023

Live Strong House (LSH) offers two programs -- Executive Functioning (EF) and College and Career Readiness (CCRP) -- that are run by Carie Olmstead. Below is a little spotlight on Carie and a look inside each program.

Carie attended Utah State University and studied special education. She has worked in a school setting for the past nine years and loves working to help students succeed. Carie has been trained to help students learn techniques to facilitate improved executive functioning skills and to implement them in their everyday lives. She loves working with high school-age students and also enjoys helping them discover all the possibilities available to them after graduation as they enter college and prepare for career readiness.

Carie enjoys spending time with her husband Jake, their five daughters, and their dogs. She grew up in Kaysville, Utah, and enjoys the state’s amazing outdoor playground as well as baking, reading, and High Fitness.

EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING (EF)

Executive functioning is a cognitive skill set that aids in self-regulation and the monitoring of behaviors to help achieve goals. Executive functioning helps students find success in the classroom as well as in everyday tasks. Carie teaches various strategies, tools, and healthy habits through hands-on learning to increase these skills.

The LSH EF program focuses on the following eight skills:

  • Attention
  • Flexibility and Shifting
  • Initiation and Completion
  • Metacognition
  • Organization
  • Response Inhibition
  • Time Management
  • Working Memory

COLLEGE & CAREER READINESS PROGRAM (CCRP)

The College and Career Readiness Program (CCRP) is a training program for Live Strong House students to explore the interest areas, needs, and requirements of post-secondary education and employment. This course provides students the tools, experience, and knowledge to be creative thinkers and problem solvers who can find success and accomplishment in searching for employment and/or further education.

CCRP aims to provide the following:

  • Gap training for high school graduates before they enter the work field or college setting
  • College counseling and support for college-bound students
  • Internal and external work experiences for prepared students
  • Independent Living Skills to help to remain engaged and successful in the years to come
  • Leadership and service opportunities to help build resumes
  • Needed skills for employment, which include using local transportation and/or acquiring a driver's license
