Momentum Young Adult Integrates New Clothing Policy

Grow at Momentum is excited to announce recent policy updates allowing young adults to bring and wear their own clothing throughout the program. This change aims to enhance personal ownership and self-expression among participants. Key Highlights:
  • Previous Policy: Focused on ensuring students had quality gear for outdoor activities, suitable especially for the Blue Ridge Mountains.
  • New Policy Decision: Implemented after valuable feedback from participants and staff, promoting emotional safety and well-being through students’ ability to wear their own clothing.
  • Guidelines Established: Clear clothing guidelines will be provided to families for preparation pre-arrival, outlining appropriate attire for various activities and weather conditions.
  • Support Provided: Momentum will continue to supply necessary gear for all activities, ensuring every student is prepared.
This adaptation not only empowers students with more freedom but also encourages responsibility for their belongings. Momentum staff believes that allowing personal clothing will enrich the experience of integrating into the community and show young adults that their individualism is valued. In a commitment to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment, the updated clothing policy was influenced by extensive feedback from participants and staff members. Clothing is an important aspect of self-identity, especially during young adulthood. By permitting individuals to choose their attire, Momentum aims to encourage autonomy and healthy freedom of expression. While the previous clothing policies were primarily oriented toward physical safety during outdoor adventures, this nuanced change now embraces students' emotional and psychological well-being. After years of experience in outdoor education and adventure therapy, the team has developed comprehensive guidelines regarding appropriate clothing for diverse activities and varying weather conditions. These guidelines will be communicated to all families before joining the Momentum community. For families who may not have appropriate attire for specific activities, Momentum will still provide the necessary gear and equipment. Grow at Momentum is committed to offering young adults as many opportunities as possible to feel comfortable in their surroundings as they dedicate themselves to personal growth alongside their peers and supportive staff.  Staff believes this policy change will grant students increased freedom and autonomy and encourage them to nurture a sense of responsibility for their belongings—an essential skill for a successful life.
