OASIS Ascent, a leading short-term residential treatment program for teens in crisis, has launched a new season of its podcast, Navigating Your Teen's Mental Health Crisis: A Guide for Parents. Hosted by therapist Tiffany Silva Herlin, LCSW, the season offers a compelling and compassionate exploration of autism in girls—how it often goes unrecognized, the importance of accurate diagnosis, and how families can find support. Through expert insights and real-world examples, this season empowers parents to better understand their daughters’ needs and navigate the path forward.
The four-episode season tackles the unique ways autism presents in girls, why they are often misdiagnosed with anxiety, depression, or borderline traits, and how traditional evaluations can miss the mark. Herlin is joined by Allison Jenkins, LCSW, Clinical Director at OASIS Ascent, who shares her deep clinical expertise and firsthand experience supporting neurodivergent girls and their families. Together, they offer guidance on everything from seeking the right assessments to adjusting treatment plans after a diagnosis.
“Our staff-to-student ratio is three to one,” said Jenkins. “We have the ability to provide levels of support that a lot of places do not,” Jenkins explains how OASIS Ascent’s intensive model allows for meaningful therapeutic progress in a short period of time. In the final episode of the season, Jenkins details how OASIS offers 24/7 observation, immediate therapeutic intervention, and family-focused care—all essential components in uncovering a teen’s true needs and providing lasting solutions.
