Pivotpoint Wnc Announces Daniel Summerlin Impact Invitational 2025 A Tribute A Tournament A Transformational Legacy

PIVOTPoint WNC is proud to announce that its 3rd Annual Golf Tournament, taking place this year on May 20, will, from this year forward, be named The Daniel Summerlin Impact Invitational. This special event honors the legacy of a dear friend whose spirit, support, and adventurous heart helped shape the early foundation of what PIVOTPoint WNC is today.

Before PIVOTPoint became the community-integrated provider it is today, it was a dream built on the backs of friendships and the power of experiential healing. That dream took shape with Daniel—helping PIVOTPoint founder and executive director, Matt Nannis, hoist rafts onto car roofs, bikes onto hitch racks, and backpacks onto shoulders for treks to secret swimming holes tucked deep into Western North Carolina’s forests. From those early moments of connection, a movement was born.

Today, that movement continues to grow. Since 2020, PIVOTPoint WNC has partnered with Buncombe County’s Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (JCPC) to support youth navigating or at risk of involvement with the justice system through nationally accredited, adventure-based behavioral health programs. They doubled their impact in 2021, earned annual contract renewals ever since, and, in 2024, launched a transformative Preventative Leadership After School Program—a pilot so successful it’s scaling across area high schools beginning July 1, 2025, through a second consecutive multi-year JCPC contract.

These victories, however, don’t fully fund themselves.

While JCPC covers much of the cost, a 30% match is still required—and that’s where the community comes in. Events like The Daniel Summerlin Impact Invitational, held at Balsam Mountain Preserve’s Arnold Palmer-designed, award-winning golf course—one of the most visually stunning mountain courses in the country—bridge that final gap, ensuring no financial barrier stands in the way of a young person’s opportunity to grow, heal, and thrive.

“I’ve served on the board at PIVOTPoint WNC for several years, and being part of the Daniel Summerlin Impact Invitational has been a meaningful extension of that work,” says Patrick Balsley, Behavioral Health Committee at Atrium Health Foundation and founder of Sana Counseling and Sana House in Charlotte, NC. “Each year, the tournament reminds me why our mission matters. Our work to support individuals and families navigating recovery is deeply personal and life-changing. Honoring Daniel’s legacy through this event raises critical support for our programs and brings our community together around hope and healing.”

Jesse Quam, licensed social worker and co-founder of Quam and Huie Educational Consultants, echoes this sentiment: “I am proud to contribute to PIVOTPoint because of who they serve, how they treat their clients, and because I believe in the healing power of the natural environment. Quam and Huie is honored to be a part of the Daniel Summerlin Impact Invitational.”

The community is invited to participate by sponsoring, playing, or simply celebrating Daniel’s legacy and our youth’s future. Let’s get all the way there together.
