Adventure Therapy Opportunity Combining Outdoor Experience, Clinical Support, and Life Skills Development
blueFire Wilderness Therapy’s young adult program, PulsaR, is offering a multi-day bikepacking expedition in May for young adults ages 18–28 seeking a therapeutic reset, increased independence, and real-world skill development.
This adventure therapy experience combines cycling through Idaho’s backcountry with guided caving, wilderness travel, and clinician-supported reflection, providing a structured yet engaging environment for young adults struggling with anxiety, depression, failure to launch, executive functioning challenges, and social disconnection.
PulsaR is a wilderness therapy program for young adults that integrates evidence-based clinical treatment with outdoor experiences. Participants receive individual therapy twice weekly and ongoing group therapy, with therapists actively involved in the field to help translate experiences into meaningful behavioral change.
A Therapeutic Approach to Adventure-Based Treatment
The May bikepacking expedition is designed to support:
-
Executive functioning and follow-through through daily planning and logistics
-
Emotional regulation and frustration tolerance in real-time environments
-
Communication and social connection within a small peer group
-
Confidence and self-efficacy through achievable, engaging challenges
Participants are responsible for route planning, pacing, and gear management, creating natural opportunities to practice independence, accountability, and problem-solving, core areas for many young adults in transition.
The addition of caving introduces a hands-on, exploration-based component that supports exposure work, adaptability, and resilience, while keeping the experience engaging and memorable.
Positioned as a Summer Reset for Young Adults
For many participants, this expedition serves as an entry point into treatment that feels active, engaging, and accessible. Rather than a traditional clinical setting alone, PulsaR emphasizes a balance of structured therapy and meaningful outdoor experiences, helping young adults re-engage in the process of growth.
This experience is particularly relevant for families and referring professionals seeking a young adult wilderness therapy program that combines clinical depth with adventure-based engagement.
