Pure Life Adventure is excited to announce a new service learning project in our program. The new Syntropic Farming Service Learning Itinerary centers on learning sustainable farming practices and doing ongoing community service.
This service learning project is based in the Balsar de Osa community, where the students spend the week doing community service while learning about syntropic farming practices.
Syntropic farming is based on the concept of observing the rainforest and planting vegetables, roots, and edible plants similarly so that it is sustainable. This method produces food for the community and keeps the soil healthy and regenerating for future growth.
The students spent a number of hours preparing the area to be farmed this way and are now helping with the planting, maintenance, and eventual harvesting of the crops. The harvested crops will benefit the families in Balsar de Osa's local community.
“We are excited to have our students regularly participate in community service - especially when it benefits the children and families within a community. Learning about the Earth and how to better serve those around us is a healing practice that helps students reflect inward and understand how to be best-contributing members of planet Earth beyond their journey at Pure Life,” said Allan Capp, Program Director and Owner.
