The holiday season is quickly approaching, and clients at Q&A Associates family of programs are gearing up to participate in seasonal community events. To name a few, clients are participating in Operation Christmas Child, creating holiday cards for the local nursing home, and participating in a community festival of trees event.
Clients at Applewood Transitions for Young Women and The Journey Program for Young Men have truly enjoyed creating shoeboxes for children in need.
"The clients learned about the importance of volunteering in the community, being an agent of change, and always being mindful of something larger than themselves," Director of The Journey Patrick McKay stated, "it was very nice to see how grateful the clients were to have the opportunity to help others in need," McKay continued.
The town of Davis, WV, has an annual Festival of Trees, and each program at Q&A is invited to decorate a tree to display. Cabin Mountain Living Center has decided on an Autism Awareness-themed Christmas tree. The Journey is decorating a tree in support of giving back to the community. Lastly, Applewood Transitions is decorating a Christmas tree to display The Breakfast Nook Restaurant, the breakfast restaurant where clients at Q&A can begin to develop real-life work skills.
"Giving back during the holiday is a meaningful way to celebrate and share the spirit of the season," Kelly Pennington, Director of Applewood Transitions, explained. "It brings our clients together, fosters gratitude and empathy, and provides personal growth opportunities."
