Students at Red Mountain Sedona celebrated this year’s Independence Day with a day of exploration in one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the Grand Canyon. One of the many benefits of residing in Sedona is the proximity to some of Earth's most breathtaking natural environments. The area is well-known for its stunning red rock formations and outdoor recreational opportunities. With miles of world-class hiking and biking trails like the Cathedral Rock, Devil's Bridge, and Bell Rock Trails just off-campus and the iconic Grand Canyon within driving distance, young adults at Red Mountain have unparalleled opportunities for adventure and exploration.
Awe-inspiring experiences in nature can be a catalyst to shift one's perspectives or priorities in life, often helpful for individuals struggling to find independence or meet their life's goals. Described as a "once in a lifetime experience" by one of Red Mountain Sedona's alumni, this year’s trip to the Grand Canyon was an obvious choice for celebrating Independence Day. The trip offered students a chance to take in the incredible views of this massive landscape and spend a day making memories with their peers and accompanying staff. The Grand Canyon is a geological marvel that can inspire a deep sense of awe, gratitude, and humility. Students are often greatly impacted by reflections that come up through quiet contemplation or group discussion about the natural world's immense scale and perseverance.
Red Mountain Sedona places a strong emphasis on cultivating joy and discovering new ways to have fun, viewing these as vital components in the healing process. This is a fundamental part of the Red Mountain model for helping young adults transition into fulfilling, independent lives. “Holidays away from home and family can present their own challenges,” said Mike Brown, Director of Business Development at Red Mountain Sedona. “But they also present an opportunity to embody one of our core mottos: 'We do it together.'”
