Second Nature Offers New Webinars For Alumni Families To Strengthen Parent Teen Connections

Since 1998, Second Nature has been a guiding light for families navigating the challenges of mental health and behavioral struggles in teenagers. Over the past 26 years, the nature-based therapeutic program has supported more than 15,000 families through transformative experiences rooted in therapeutic growth, understanding, and connection. Building on that legacy, Second Nature is expanding its alumni support by offering parent-focused psycho-educational webinars designed to reinforce therapeutic progress and foster long-term family wellness.

Recent research underscores the vital role of parental involvement in sustaining therapeutic progress for adolescents. A 2023 study in JAMA Network Open highlighted that strong parent-teen relationships significantly improve long-term mental health outcomes. Moreover, higher parental involvement during adolescence has been linked to increased self-control and prosocial behavior, key indicators of sustained emotional well-being.

These interactive alumni sessions are led by Parent Coach Mary Hickey, M.Ed., CPC, and offer alumni parents practical strategies and the opportunity to connect with other families who have shared similar journeys. The webinar topics will address a range of issues, including:

- Strengthening communication between parents and teens
- Building emotional resilience within the family unit
- Fostering responsibility and academic independence

“Working with families is at the heart of what we do,” said Co-Founder and Primary Therapist Devan Glissmeyer. “We’ve seen time and time again in our 26-year history how impactful it is when parents and teens come together to address challenges. The new alumni webinar series is an extension of our belief that healing doesn’t stop at the end of the program—it’s a lifelong journey.”
