Sunrise Presents Outcome Data Suggesting Effectiveness of DBT in Long-term Residential Program
Sunrise Director of Research and Development, Dr. Brad Simpson, and Research Assistant Drew Beatty have presented their paper entitled "Associations between Symptoms and Participation in a DBT-A Focused Long-term Residential Treatment Program: Outcomes at Discharge and 2-Years Post-Discharge." Presented at the IECA conference, or the clinically esteemed ISITDBT Conference, the information is based on a recent five-year data analysis of Sunrise students and their families.
Key findings in the study support the notion that DBT-A adherent residential program treatment results in positive long-term outcomes. DBT clinicians have been skeptical of utilizing residential treatment for many years. This paper legitimizes the effectiveness of residential therapy as an evidence-based treatment if the programming is grounded in practice-based evidence and encourages the generalization of DBT skills in as many contexts as possible.
Sunrise uses these findings to inform best practices and create lasting effectiveness for real-life change for students and families. Sunrise, Dr. Simpson, and Ms. Beatty are hopeful to have this paper published in a peer-reviewed journal within the year.
