The Dorm's Summer Remediation for College Students
For college students navigating a range of mental health diagnoses, summer remediation provides intensive care when they need it most—setting them up for a smooth return to campus in the fall (with flexible continuing therapeutic support if needed).
Independent Therapeutic Consultant Maureen Sullivan, MS, MPH, MA, LMHC shared, "The summer is a perfect time for students to focus on skill-building and treatment, a necessary jump-start that lays the groundwork for a smooth fall semester."
With over 70% of The Dorm's young adult population in college full or part-time, they are experts at delivering treatment and services that help students stay on the path to graduation.
Summer remediation highlights include:
Intensive Therapeutic Focus:
Psychotherapeutic and evidence-based interventions support symptom management and reduction through targeted treatment modalities (e.g., RO-DBT, EMDR, CPT, EF, Cognitive Remediation).
- Diagnostic clarity through neuropsychological testing and assessment, if clinically indicated
- Comprehensive individual and group work
- Family therapy and parent coaching
1:1 Skill-building Work:
From addressing classroom triggers to learning self-advocacy, clients can work with a licensed therapist to work through obstacles that interfere with collegiate and independent living.
- Executive functioning skills
- Social skills
- Independent living skills (budgeting, cooking, activities of daily living (ADL), sleep-wake hygiene)
- Job readiness skills
The Dorm U:

- Enforces the structure and expectations of university classes and asks participants to adhere to mandatory attendance, complete weekly assignments, complete research, participate in group discussions, and engage in peer presentations.
- Provides all aspects of matriculated coursework without the high-stakes pressure, offering the skill-building required for successful college class engagement and completion.
- Encourages skill development in writing, critical analysis, public speaking, in-depth reading, research, time management, original thought, and preparation.
- Led by expert academic advisors and/or licensed clinicians with a professional education background and/or expertise in a specific field.
