Valley View School is proud to announce the launch of its new Entrepreneurial Leadership Curriculum, an innovative program designed to cultivate confidence, creativity, resilience, and real-world problem-solving skills in students through hands-on, project-based learning.
The curriculum is intentionally designed to meet the unique learning profiles, strengths, and interests of Valley View students. By combining entrepreneurship, leadership development, financial literacy, communication, and experiential learning, the program helps students to develop the practical skills and mindset needed to thrive in school, the workplace, and life.
"Many of our students are naturally creative, resourceful thinkers who flourish when learning is experiential and connected to authentic challenges," said Rick May, Executive Director at Valley View School. "Our Entrepreneurial Leadership curriculum provides students with opportunities to discover their strengths, think independently, collaborate with others, and develop the confidence to pursue their goals."
Rather than focusing solely on starting a business, the curriculum emphasizes developing an entrepreneurial mindset — encouraging students to recognize opportunities, solve problems creatively, communicate effectively, take initiative, and persevere through challenges.
Students participating in the program will explore topics including:
- Design thinking and innovation
- Opportunity recognition and creative problem-solving
- Financial literacy and budgeting
- Marketing, branding, and customer engagement
- Public speaking and presentation skills
- Leadership, teamwork, and collaboration
- Goal setting and project management
- Ethical decision-making and social responsibility
Throughout the school year, students will develop original business or community-impact ideas, work collaboratively on projects, and present their concepts to peers, faculty, parents, and invited community members. These authentic learning experiences help students strengthen executive functioning skills while building confidence through meaningful accomplishment.
The Entrepreneurial Leadership Curriculum reflects Valley View School's commitment to preparing students not only for academic success but also for meaningful, independent lives. By connecting classroom learning with real-world application, the program encourages students to become adaptable, confident learners who recognize their own potential. For students with ADHD, executive functioning challenges, learning differences, and social-emotional difficulties, entrepreneurial learning leverages strengths such as creativity, innovation, persistence, and outside-the-box thinking while providing authentic opportunities to practice organization, communication, planning, and self-advocacy.
"Our mission has always been to help students discover what they are capable of," May added. "Entrepreneurship is about much more than business--it's about curiosity, resilience, leadership, and believing that your ideas can make a difference. Those are qualities that will serve our students wherever life takes them."
