Life is full of challenges and it can be difficult to respond when you feel constantly burdened. This is the case for many young adults who experience anxiety, depression or other chronic mental health conditions. To better prepare students for life's challenges, EDGE Learning & Wellness has implemented "Stress Intelligence Coaching", a group led by Serena Wadhwa, Psy.D.
Dr. Wadhwa, founder of TriQual Living Center, said that the intention of the group is "to help students change their relationship with stress. Over the six sessions, students get the opportunity to practice about a dozen tools which can work in different real life situations." A number of students have cited their use of specific skills that they have learned from group. One student commented that "It's actually one of the cooler things we do at EDGE. I tend to be pretty stressed and like that I can learn things that I can use later when I have stressful things happen."
The Stress Intelligence Coaching program is one of a number of workshops and programs that educates and teaches skills to EDGE students. Other programs that are part of the skills suite of group programming include Financial Fridays, Mindfulness Meditation, and fitness programs. Executive Director Jason Wynkoop emphasized that all EDGE programming is part of a greater philosophical commitment. "Encouraging students to experiment with a variety of skills and to think about different paths to wellness is key. While our students need clinical support, they also need practical skills that give them an advantage in managing the day-to-day difficulties that might lead to being overwhelmed, if not managed as they arise. We're committed to sustainable success."
