All Kinds of News for May 09, 2018
Auldern Academy was all abuzz late on Friday May 4th as the entire student body returned to campus after the Spring Experiential Trip to Atlanta. This 4-day trip is one of two extended, experiential trips Auldern takes each year. Students and staff were excited to get the chance to see a familiar city in a new way.
The trip began on May 1st at 5:30am, as sleepy staff and students boarded the charter bus. The first stop was to see the large granite dome at Stone Mountain Park, before heading to the city for other activities, including a tour of Turner Field, “Home of the Atlanta Braves.” Day one concluded with dinner at The Varsity, the world’s largest drive-in.
The rest of the trip involved historic, educational and recreational activities, including a visit to the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site, a behind-the-scenes tour of the CNN Studios, and a trip to the Georgia Aquarium, which included an instructor-led program that explored oceanic occupations. The students ended their trip with a day of fun and excitement at the Carowinds amusement park.
Despite the power-packed week, many students were up early the next day, excited to attend Out! Raleigh’s 8th Annual Pride Fest. Fourteen enthusiastic students were decked out in glitter, tie-dye and rainbow make-up in order to celebrate equality and inclusivity in their own festive way. The Triangle Pride Band kicked off the event with a parade, and the students enjoyed their day collecting stickers, learning about LGBTQ+ resources and enjoying the festive atmosphere.
