All Kinds of News for April 09, 2019
Valley View School, a therapeutic boarding school for adolescent boys aged 10-15 on enrollment, is known for its extensive range of experiential programming designed to engage students who have typically shown patterns of struggle and/or withdrawal. In addition to traditional therapy and academic modalities, numerous opportunities for engagement in activities such as arts and crafts, music, drama, theater, community service, athletics, field-based learning trips, seasonal endeavors, and international travel (to name a few) are offered throughout the year.
Assistant Director Brendan O'Neil states: "It is inherent in our design that we make a multitude of real-life, real-time activities available for all of our students. This is not only beneficial for our students in terms of enrichment value, but also for the deeper, more critical impetus of affording students the opportunity to confront themselves as they interact with various phenomena, inevitably addressing personal struggles while gaining support and guidance to overcome obstacles they have faced."
Students gain valuable personal insights from individual, group, family and milieu efforts at Valley View that further inform their "awareness of self". Brendan O'Neil adds: "When they apply these insights to a broad range of life activities, the potential for growth becomes exponential. Over time, it becomes clear to an individual that they can take on more challenges, that they can accomplish more, and that they want to pursue more of what life has to offer. These shifts are essential to combating the increased need for tech devices and screentime that many students vie for. They are as equally critical to assisting students' social skill development. Furthermore, our experiential endeavors are paramount to our commitment to teaching and instilling passion and personal drive in students, a gift that keeps on giving throughout a lifetime."
Valley View School has been in operation since 1970, delivering a long-standing program model that has been meticulously designed and manicured for nearly half a century. Implicit in the structure and clinical approach is a commitment to promoting deep-rooted, social-emotional growth that will ultimately impact the rest of the students' lives. Mr. O'Neil states: "Therefore, it is imperative that students develop more interests, familiarity and greater confidence as these acts stand to represent more options and possibilities for the lives they set out to lead. Each success they have is invariably another brick in the foundation that they may build happy and productive lives upon."
