Great Barrington, MA: John Dewey Academy (JDA) is committed to integrated healing of their unique, struggling, gifted, co-ed teens ages 15-21 and has added two integrative wellness professionals to the staff to assist the students. It is exciting to announce that Dr. Kathleen Friend from Tucson, AZ (remote appts) and Lenox, MA. The addition of these two positions reveals further committment to the goal of Integrative Wellness for all students. Dr. Friend is a cutting-edge child psychiatrist. She shares the belief with John Dewey that psychiatric solutions require a mind, body, spirit system balance perspective. What has resulted is her ability to often reduce or eliminate medications after an established period of team-based stabilization.
Addtionally, JDA is excited to announce the creation of the intern position of Health and Wellness Coordinator, Sophie Boka from Brooklyn, NY. Sophie's specialty is the planning and execution of organic farming and meal planning. Sophie knows the John Dewey model quite well as she is a former graduate. Sophie has spearheaded very complex urban farming and community outreach projects and is passionate about teaching teens healthy nutrition and organic farming.
