All Kinds of News for June 10, 2020
SYMMETRY Neuro-Pathway Training is determined to make neuroscience a staple of residential treatment. So much so, they are placing clinical neurofeedback systems in programs and letting them use it free of charge. Programs quickly taking advantage of the opportunity include Uinta Academy, Compass Rose Academy, EDGE Advance & EDGE Learning and Wellness Collegiate Community, STRiV and Urban Edge - Denver.
Implementing an advanced neuroscience technology to compliment the various modalities that residential programs utilize is not difficult. “Most of the therapeutic programs know the effectiveness of neurofeedback, but for one reason or another they are tentative about bringing it in house. We want to change that.” says Craig Maron, Director of Business Development. SYMMETRY is placing qEEG systems on loan, and providing a host of communication tools to assist programs in communicating the new service to their families. This includes email content and a custom web page, specific to the program, with everything families may want to know about qEEG neurofeedback.
Quantitative electroencephalography (qEEG), often referred to as “brain mapping”, is a method of measuring and analyzing brainwave patterns by recording and measuring electrical activity in the brain with a specialized cap, amplifier, and software. Much like a physician uses a stethoscope to monitor a heart beat, a qEEG monitors how well the brain is functioning by recording and comparing measurements to a normative database. The data recorded is compared to a validated normative database and used in conjunction with biopsychosocial assessments to gain valuable insight into that individual’s functioning. The process is simple, painless and provides valuable information on what areas of the brain are properly ordered and which are not. Additionally, it provides the protocols for ongoing neurofeedback sessions. Neurofeedback is a method of training brain waves to alter the structure and function of the brain for positive change and improvement.
Neurofeedback research is based upon the principle that many mental illness symptoms and behavioral challenges are related to brainwave dysregulation. When you help the brain better regulate, it most often makes other therapies and approaches more effective. “The potential impact that neurofeedback can have on helping kids thrive when in a therapeutic program is what drives me every day. I’ve seen the incredible results in my own son who attended a residential therapeutic program and I hear about amazing, positive results from our customers and clients regularly,” says Dianne Kosto, SYMMETRY Neuro-PT, CEO.
With no investment, SYMMETRY is giving programs qEEG brain maps for all of their students to enhance the therapeutic experience, and allow them to offer full neurofeedback services as an ongoing part of their programming. Dianne says “Families and Educational Consultants are starting to seek out neurofeedback when looking at programs. Eventually, every program will have to offer it. We want to help them embrace neuroscience by making it as easy as possible to implement and offer qEEG based neurofeedback to all of their residents”.
