Diversity Work and Telos
Published February 09, 2022Telos
Category: Programming Evolution

The difficult lessons of 2020 remain fresh in the minds of Telos employees.  One topic, DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) has received attention from the Telos board of directors.  "We run a program in the lily-white center of Utah County. Diversity has always been a challenge," says Tony Mosier, COO.  "However, over the past 2 years, we have invested significant time and energy into DEI. Our board of directors works with Dr. Soniya Richardson, a professor at the University of North Carolina Charlotte and founder of Another Level Counseling and Coaching. Dr. Richardson is working with our team at the top level to help us see and shape our organization through a DEI lens."

Dr. Richardson has unveiled a year-long DEI-specific strategic plan for Telos.  Although Telos has shifted from a program lacking diversity to one attracting diversity, more focused DEI work "will help us make our gains permanent," said CEO Craig LaMont. "In a relatively homogenous area of Utah, our student and staff population have blossomed with diversity.  We don't want to see these gains evaporate."

Dr. Richardson is expected to continue her consultation with Telos through 2022 and into 2023.
