Cornerstones of Maine is a clinician-owned continuum of care for young adults ages 18 to 30, integrating intensive clinical mental health treatment with real-world independent living skills. Our programs are designed to meet young adults exactly where they are, whether they need acute stabilization, structured transitional living, or ongoing support as they step into independence.
Our Programs:
Residential Treatment Center (RTC): Short-term, clinically intensive care focused on stabilization, crisis management, psychiatric oversight, and identifying what is keeping a young adult stuck before they move to the next stage of treatment.
Long-Term Transitional Living: Residents live in collaborative apartments while managing daily responsibilities, pursuing work or academics, and building sustainable life skills, all while continuing individual therapy, family work, and coaching.
Step-Down Apartments: A high-autonomy bridge between structured transitional living and full independence, offering light, responsive support while young adults test their readiness for life on their own.
Aftercare Program: Ongoing therapy, coaching, and community support for graduates living independently, tapering support gradually as clinically appropriate.
Executive Function Coaching: Individualized coaching to build the planning, organization, and daily living skills young adults need to sustain independence long-term.
Rubedo: A neurodivergent-affirming transitional living program for young adults ages 18 to 30 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, Nonverbal Learning Differences (NVLD), OCD, or related neurodivergent profiles. Rubedo combines evidence-based clinical care with a community of similarly presenting peers, addressing self-awareness, social connection, and executive functioning as the foundation for independence.
Cornerstones of Maine was founded in 2015 by clinician-owners Dr. Joshua Altschule, Psy.D., and Dr. Jacob Gelles, Psy.D. Rubedo was established in 2024 by Dr. Altschule, Dr. Gelles, and Dr. Eric Beaudoin, Psy.D., who serves as Executive Director. Programs are based in Biddeford and Portland, Maine.
