Balance House is a recreation-focused treatment and transitional living program designed for men ages 18–38. We help clients build the skills, confidence, healthy routines, and community connections needed for long-term recovery. Recreation and experiential learning are central to our program, with activities such as hiking, camping, sports, community outings, and other engaging experiences that promote wellness, emotional regulation, teamwork, and personal growth.
We believe lasting recovery takes time. Based on research and our clinical experience, clients are encouraged to participate in up to one year of treatment and transition support. Our phased approach provides decreasing levels of structure as clients gain independence and move toward employment, education, and sustainable recovery.
Phase I: Residential (75-90 days)
Clients receive intensive support through 15–20 therapeutic group hours each week, offsite recreational therapy, 2–3 individual therapy sessions weekly, and weekly meetings with the Medical Director. Clients participate in a robust outdoor program including skiing, hiking, camping, climbing, and more.
Phase II: Extended Care (45-60 days)
Clients maintain the habits built in Phase I with less daily structure and at least 15 hours of clinical programming per week, including 1–2 individual therapy sessions. Clients meet with the Medical Director every other week and begin preparing to gain employment or re-enroll in school.
Phase III: Transitional Living (3-6 months)
Clients continue integrating into the recovery community while practicing increasing independence. Support includes individual therapy as needed, monthly or as-needed Medical Director check-ins, a curfew tailored to the client’s schedule, and shared household responsibilities.
Phase IV: Independent Living (3-6 months)
Clients apply the tools developed throughout treatment while living more independently. The program provides daily contact, weekly drug testing, and support with self-sufficiency and financial independence as clients contribute toward their monthly rent.
Balance House uses a person-centered, strengths-based, and trauma-informed approach. Balance House is an attachment driven program.
