The Hyde School is a coeducational college preparatory boarding and day school in Bath, Maine Set on the coast of Maine, Hyde School serves grades 9 through 12 plus a postgraduate year, pairing a rigorous college preparatory program with a deliberate, daily focus on character growth. We believe every young person has unique potential, and that character is what unlocks it. Character at the center. Our community lives by Hyde's Five Words: Courage, Integrity, Leadership, Curiosity, and Concern.

A genuine family model

Families are considered full participants in the Hyde experience, not just observers. That is unusual and essential to our model. Families consistently tell us it changes their relationships with their children in lasting, positive ways.

Here is what that actually looks like. Parents enroll in Hyde's Family Education Program, a yearlong parenting curriculum that runs alongside their student's. It includes two Family Weekends on campus (Thursday through Sunday, October 15 to 18, 2026 and April 15 to 18, 2027), a multiday Family Learning Center workshop chosen from a rolling calendar of dates, and regional parent group meetings and webinars that carry the work forward between campus visits. Parents sit in seminars, meet with teachers, and observe classes, practices, and performances alongside their child.

The curriculum is grounded in The Biggest Job We'll Ever Have (Scribner), written by Hyde's Laura and Malcolm Gauld, and its ten priorities for raising teenagers of character. Parents who complete the program receive a Hyde Parent Diploma on the morning of their child's graduation, just before their senior delivers a graduation speech while the whole family stands in the audience.

Hyde is not a treatment program. What we offer is a structure where parents do their own growth work, alongside other parents who understand, at the same time their child is doing theirs. Families tell us that is the piece that makes the change hold once everyone is home.
