Keswick School is a year-round, non-profit, independent, special-education, therapeutic boarding school located on 25 pastoral acres just outside Charlottesville, Virginia. Since 1963, we have been internationally recognized for serving boys ages 9-18 with complex social-emotional, learning, and developmental challenges.
The Keswick School provides a full academic program tailored to each student's individual needs, accredited through the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Education Facilities (VAISEF), allowing students to earn transferable high school credits.

Each student receives an Individualized Service Plan (ISP) or an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) that covers academics, residential life, and therapeutic goals. Course offerings include English, mathematics, science, social studies, PE/health, and practical arts such as art, woodshop, and horseback riding.

All treatment and education at Keswick School is guided by our clinical understanding of each student and their unique needs and goals. Using a family-centered treatment model that relies on relationships as the mechanism of change, our students are immersed in an environment that provides constant opportunities to develop and practice skills under the direction of a therapist who works in concert with a consulting psychiatrist and a team of related service providers in occupational therapy, speech language pathology, and art therapy.

Our academic program provides highly individualized support from a full staff of special education certified teachers in classrooms with small student-to-staff ratios. Residentially, the student experience is centered around developing interests and abilities that not only help a student know how to fill their time, but also create a positive sense of identity.

We are accredited by the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Education Facilities and licensed by the Virginia State Board of Education and the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services. We are a member of the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs and the Small Boarding School Association.

The Keswick School is designed as a stepping stone, not a permanent school placement. Students typically move on to either another specialized boarding school or a day school. Another transition option is the student's public school.
