SOAR, based in Balsam, NC, and also operating programs in Wyoming, serves youth, young adults, and families living with ADHD and learning differences. If your family is looking for an outdoor program built around 🏔️ attention challenges, SOAR centers that work in a setting where adventure, structure, and practical support all matter.
At SOAR, participants take part in experiential education, life-skills development, and outdoor adventure programming designed for ages 8 to 25. The day-to-day rhythm includes a strong staff-to-participant ratio, clear structure, and activities such as hiking, llama trekking, white-water rafting, rock climbing, and other expedition-style experiences. This is not a year-round school.
The GAP year option is especially relevant for young adults who want room to build independence, practice daily living skills, and step away from a traditional academic track while staying in a supported outdoor environment. The GAP Year at SOAR with ADHD and Learning Disabilities is for students who have graduated from high school but are not quite ready to step into a university or workforce setting.
