Red Mountain Sedona: Supporting Direct Transitions from Home Environments

In response to shifts in the marketplace which have resulted in more young adults living at home who do not meet criteria for wilderness therapy or primary treatment, Red Mountain Sedona has developed an immersion program. Executive Director Josh White explains, “Red Mountain still remains an excellent option as a transition program; however, we recognize that there are young adults who lack a certain level of clinical acuity that are in need of a support system to aid them in developing a healthy and independent life. I am proud of how we have created the immersion track, which allows both students coming from the wilderness and coming from home to benefit from our model.” Red Mountain’s team-based approach, clinical sophistication, and implementation of modern, evidence-based modalities have played a key role in creating an environment that provides ample support for individuals transitioning from home. The program’s welcoming and relationship-based community offers a safe space for these young adults to find their footing in a treatment environment. In the past, Red Mountain had a relatively lower number of students coming directly from home. However, with the implementation of their comprehensive support system, including 3x per week individual therapy, 3x per week case management, 2x per week health and wellness coaching, and a 1x per week neurofeedback session, the program can now provide enhanced oversight and guidance to those individuals transitioning from home. This personalized approach ensures that every student receives the support they need to thrive at Red Mountain Sedona. “Our students who choose to come directly to Red Mountain without first attending a primary treatment or wilderness program will be shown extra care as they transition into our program and learn to engage in our therapeutic process,” explains Bethanie Stevenson, MFT, Clinical Director at Red Mountain Sedona. “We do this through a secure attachment model of increased frequency in therapeutic sessions and case management meetings, with an overall focus on providing extra client attention: from welcome dinners to coffee with staff, and individualized opportunities to wrap around the client, ensuring ease in the transition while settling into the programmatic work.” Red Mountain Sedona remains committed to offering young adults a comprehensive and supportive environment as they navigate their journey toward independence and personal growth. With an emphasis on clinical excellence, individualized attention, and a welcoming community, Red Mountain Sedona continues to be a premiere option for young adults seeking to transition into a fulfilling and productive life.
