ScenicView Academy Partners with FanX SLC

Last month, ScenicView Academy participated in Salt Lake City’s FanX Comic Convention by hosting a quiet room, a refuge where attendees could escape the commotion and sensory overwhelm and recharge. The partnership with FanX not only allows for ScenicView to provide an important service for FanX attendees, but it also furthers the nonprofit’s mission to increase awareness about the unique needs of adults with autism.
Featuring low light, white noise, plush seating, an art table, massagers, and sensory toys, the quiet room was put to good use by several hundred grateful attendees. One appreciative fan commented, “I was feeling overwhelmed and thought I’d have to go home until I found your quiet room. Thank you!”
“The FanX Comic Convention is always a big deal to our students, but many do not attend or attend for only a short while due to sensory overwhelm,” says Kari Bushman, ScenicView’s Community Engagement Officer. “Providing a quiet room makes it possible for our students and others like them to attend the convention at their own pace.”
This year marks ScenicView’s 5th year providing this accommodation.
