ScenicView Academy Partners with SLC Comic Convention

ScenicView Academy, a nonprofit transitional school for young adults with autism in Provo, Utah, provided a “Quiet Room” at Salt Lake City’s FanX Comic Convention at the Salt Palace. “FanX is a big deal to our students, and the Quiet Room allows them and others with sensory sensitivities to participate in the convention at their own pace,” says Kari Bushman, Community Relations Coordinator at ScenicView Academy.
The Quiet Room is a space where convention attendees can relax and recharge without having to leave the convention. Featuring low light, noise-canceling headphones, plush seating, an art table, swings, massagers, and sensory toys, the quiet room was put to good use by several hundred grateful attendees. One appreciative fan commented “I was feeling overwhelmed and thought I’d have to go home until I found your quiet room. Thank you!”
While the partnership with FanX allows ScenicView to provide an important service for FanX attendees, it also furthers the nonprofit’s mission to increase awareness about the unique needs of adults with autism. “ScenicView Academy is great at what we do, empowering adults with Autism to Live, Work, and Thrive in the community,” says Alex Johnson, Admissions and Business Development Director, “We are always looking for opportunities that allow others to learn about us, and we’re thrilled to attach our name to something as significant as the FanX convention.”
